Kessler was founded in 1950 by Mrs. Auguste Kessler, the owner of Alfing Kessler Werke, in Wasseralfingen, Germany. As early as 1952 with about 30 employees, the company began designing and manufacturing drive axles for agricultural trailers.
In 1955, Dr. Albert Grimminger was appointed Managing Director of Kessler and simultaneously Director of Maschinenfabrik Alfing Kessler. The product range shifted towards the development and manufacturing of drive axles for construction machinery and special-purpose vehicles. In 1960, Dr. Albert Grimminger took over all shares of Kessler from Mrs. Kessler's heirs. In 1967, Kessler became independent and family-owned business and relocated to Abtsgmünd, Germany.
Kessler started manufacturing with the initial production area of 3,000 square meters and expanded quickly in two phases respectively in 1970 and 1972. Until 2000, the facility was expanded in a total of 20 construction stages. In 2002, Plant II “Kocherwiesen” was built and the shop floor was soon expanded to 30,000 square meters.

In addition to various differential axles, newly developed planetary axles were specially developed for a 35t aircraft tractor.
Among first projects were those having development of heavy drive axles with overhead drive shaft in mobile crane application.
